Hi Folks- is it possible to lock yourself in a Tvan if doing a quick overnight stop.
Cheers Cobalt.

certainly possible to do it accidentaly if the hatch closes and the latch on one side or both swing around and catch on their hooks. First thing we did was make sure we could climb out the top hatches. I have also put magnets on the overcentre catches to hold them open.

To make a way of holding it closed; perhaps the strap could be brought in and attached to a hook.

The overcentre catches on both sides need to be pulled back and a small padlock or D pin inserted to ensure they cannot accidentally latch when you are inside. Getting out of the overhead hatches is not possible if you have broad shoulders

Thanks for the replies. Wife and I attended the Adelaide 4WD Camping show this weekend gone.      Rob from Track Melbourne showed us the ins and out of the Firetail Tvan. I have been Tvan tyre kicker for a few years now. Wifes only concern is to lock up the Tvan at night whilst asleep as other brand vans have a lockable door with lockable screen door.

Not sure why you'd want to lock yourself in?

If you are camping in a place so dangerous, that you are afraid of being attacked/burgled/etc, then I'd suggest keeping on driving to somewhere more suitable?

It wouldn't be hard to organise something to lock the hatch from the inside if you were at all handy. You could probably tie it shut with two pieces of rope.
